All classroom teacher positions for 2017-2018 have been filled. No further applications for Early Childhood/Elementary School classroom teachers or Secondary School subject teachers are being accepted at this time.

KIST is currently recruiting for the positions listed below only. (Scroll down to view.)

  • A cover letter outlining experience related to the position and explaining the specific aspects of KIST that interest you.
  • A complete resume, including details of qualifications and relevant experience.
  • A one-page statement outlining your personal philosophy of education (for teaching positions only).
  • Contact details (e-mail preferred) for at least two recent professional references, including from most recent supervisors.
  • A recent photograph.
  • Personal details, including information on any dependents.
  • Details of visa status and expiry (if currently living in Japan).

Educational Division



Teaching Assistant*

Base Elementary School 
Curriculum IB Primary Years Programme (PYP)
Grade/s K2 (4-year-olds)
Period August 2017 - June 2018 (Possible annual renewal depending on appraised work performance and school needs)

- Provide support in the planning and implementation of educational programs for students, and in the assessment of and reporting on student progress and achievement.

- Assist in organizing the learning environment and support systems necessary to promote effective student learning and personal development.

- Contribute collaboratively to maintaining smooth classroom operations by assisting with various administrative tasks.

Perform other general tasks as requested.


- Native or near-native proficiency in English required.

- ESL/TEFL/TESOL certification and/or classroom teaching qualification preferred.

- Candidates with appropriate working visas preferred; however, visa sponsorship available for foreign nationals (if suitably qualified). No tourist visas, please.

Working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. A number of Saturdays during the year for annual school events.

- Monthly salary based on qualifications and experience.

- Reimbursement available for commuter expenses to a maximum of 1,000 yen per day.

- Health insurance and employment insurance available.

- As a local hire position, applicants must currently live in Japan.

Operational Division 



School Nurse (Part-time)*

Base Nurse's Room (Main Office)
Period August 2017 - June 2018 (Possible annual renewal depending on appraised work performance and school needs)

- Provide health care services to students and staff.

- Provide basic first aid treatment to injured students and staff.

- Care for sick students who visit the nurse's room.

- Contact parents of students who become sick or injured at school.

- Input student data and emergency contacts into the database. 

- Arrange the annual student health checks.

- Prepare documents on health matters.

- Perform other duties as requested.


- Qualification in nursing required.

- Communicative proficiency in English and Japanese.

- Must hold an appropriate working visa (foreign nationals only) (e.g. permanent resident, spouse or child of Japanese national, long-term resident). Visa sponsorship not available.

- Working hours 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday with 45 minutes break time. Occasional overtime work.

- Initial hourly salary of 1,300 - 1,800 yen (commensurate with prior experience).

- Reimbursement for commuter expenses up to a maximum of 1,000 yen per day.

- Annual paid leave (as per Japanese labor law regulations).

- Health insurance and employment insurance available.

- Meals subsidy available.
