KIST is currently recruiting for the following positions. (Scroll down to view more information about the roles.)

Educational Division

       

Position

Part-Time After Care Attendant*

Base Elementary School
Period Commences as soon as a suitable candidate is found and continues depending on appraised work performance and school needs
Overview

- Ensure the safety and well-being of students attending after care.

- Assist in the provision of a variety of age appropriate play opportunities for children.

- Supervise children to ensure safe use of equipment and facilities.

Notes

- Conversational skills in English required.

- Appropriate visa required (visa sponsorship not available).

- Other requirements:

  • Some experience working with young children and organizing play activites with children.
  • An awareness of the needs of children.
  • A basic awareness of health and safety practices.
  • A strong sense of responsibility and reliability.
  • No criminal convictions.

- Remuneration of 1,500 yen per hour (minus tax).

- Work is not available during school vacation periods and compensation is not provided during these periods.

- General working hours for the coming months:

  • After care on regular school days through June 12:
    • Mondays: 2:30 - 7:00 p.m.
    • Tuesdays to Fridays: 3:30 - 7:00 p.m.
  • Extended care on June 13 and 14:
    • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Summer vacation from June 17 - August 9:
    • School closed. No work available.
  • Extended care from August 12 - 16:
    • 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • After care on regular school days from August 19:
    • Mondays: 2:30 - 7:00 p.m.
    • Tuesdays to Fridays: 3:30 - 7:00 p.m.

- Reimbursement for actual commuter expenses incurred provided up to a maximum of 1,000 yen per day.

- This is a local hire position. Applicants must currently live in Japan.

English Language Support Instructors*

Overview 

The following positions are expected to become available from August 2019.

Please be sure to indicate which area you wish to apply for in your cover letter.

Elementary School: 2 or 3 positions

Secondary School: 1 position

- Provide support to individual or small groups of students in need of assistance with English language development both in class and in pull-out contexts.

- Collaborate with subject teachers to organize the learning environment and support systesm necessary to promote effective learning for students requiring language support.

- Monitor, assess and report on the language development of students.

- Provide instruction to students requiring additional support or further enrichment during before- and after-school support classes on certain days during the week, as well as during the summer academic programs.

- Assess the English language level of prospective students.

- Assist with the planning and organization of class/grade and annual school events.

- Monitor student welfare and assist when required.

- Perform student supervisory duties and other general duties as requested.

Notes

- Native or near-native proficiency in English required.

- ESL/TEFL/TESOL certification and/or classroom teaching qualification required.

- Candidates with appropriate working visas preferred; however, visa sponsorship available for foreign nationals (if suitably qualified). No tourist visas, please.

- Monthly salary based on qualifications and experience.

- Reimbursement available for commuter expenses to a maximum of 25,000 yen per month.

- Health insurance and employment insurance available.

- Working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. A number of Saturdays during the year for annual school events (working hours may vary).

- These are local hire positions. Applicants must currently live in Japan or have made arrangments to move to Japan prior to August 2019.

Position

Laboratory and Library Assistant*

Base Secondary School
Period August 2019 - June 2020 (Possible annual renewal depending on appraised work performance and school needs)
Overview

A combined position involving duties within the Secondary School science laboratories and the library media center. Position objectives include:

Laboratory related:

- Preparing materials necessary for lab-based lessons.

- Contributing to maintaining a safe environment for students within the science laboratories.

- Organizing the procurement, maintenance and storage of an adequate stockof materials, chemicals and lab apparatus equipment.

Library related:

- Supporting the teacher-librarian in maintaining, and further developing, efficient library services and routines that enable users to make effective use of the facilities and resources available.

- Organizing library resources and working with students and staff to locate appropriate resources.

Notes

- University degree required.

- Communication skills in English required. Japanese skills desirable.

- Candidates with appropriate working visas preferred; however, visa sponsorship available for foreign nationals (if suitably qualified). No tourist visas, please.

- Working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

- Monthly salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Operational Division

  

Position

Administrative Assistant*

Base Secondary School
Period July 2019 - July 2020 (Possible annual renewal depending on appraised work performance and school needs)
Overview

- Translate written communications (Japanese/English and English/Japanese).
- Maintain electronic and paper-based records.
- Schedule appointments, take minutes at meetings, and liaise with courier companies.
- Coordinate orders and distribution of consumables.
- Liaise with families regarding school area-related administrative issues.
- Provide interpretation at meetings, information sessions, parent conferences etc.
- Respond to telephone, e-mail and personal inquiries related to the school area.
- Assist with the running of area events and activities.
- Perform general word processing, data input and clerical work (e.g. filing, photocopying).
- Perform student supervisory tasks (e.g. playground duty) and other duties as requested.

Notes

- Native Japanese proficiency required in all areas (reading, listening, reading and writing) together with advanced proficiency in English. Must be able to compose written communications in Japanese to a native level that do not require checking or proofreading. (Applicants selected to proceed to the interview stage will be required to participate in activities to assess their language skills.)

- University degree required.

Visa sponsorship available for foreign nationals (according to eligibility).

- Working hours 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday with 60 minutes total break time. Occasional Saturdays for annual whole-school events (working hours may vary). Attendance at a number of evening events during the year may also be require.

- TEFL/TESOL certificate and/or classroom teaching credentials highly desirable.

- Reimbursement for commuter expenses up to a maximum of 40,000 yen per month.

- Health insurance and employment insurance available.

- Meals subsidy available.

- As a local hire position, applicants must currently live in Japan. Relocation and housing allowances not provided.
