The Story Festival celebrates the wonder and importance of storytelling across generations and cultures. With the involvement of families and the wider community, students take part in class, multiage and school-wide experiences involving storytelling through a range of media including books, voice, music and drama. They also enjoy “reading with a buddy” activities as well as listening to stories presented by mystery readers and visiting storytellers. Held in conjunction with International Mother Language Day in February, many of the storytellers are encouraged to speak in their own language. The festival culminates with a fancy dress parade in which students dress up as their favorite characters from stories they have been reading.
